Description of the Élite Laser for hair removal

Laser hair removal is based on the principle of “selective photothermolysis”», and consists in “selectively” heating the hair to destroy it definitively, without any damage on the surrounding tissues. The hair removal laser emits a light beam that is absorbed by the brown pigment (melanin) of the hair shaft and of its root. This beam is converted into heat, which leads to the destruction of the hair bulb.

The Elite+MC laser offers two wavelengths in one single system.  The Alexandrite 755 nm and the  Nd:Yag long pulse 1064 nm high-power enables us to treat every phototypes, safely and with optimal efficiency.  This kind of laser is also used in the treatment of pigmentary spots and couperose.

Clinical indications and contraindications

Nowadays, the laser hair removal technique is efficient and safe, which relates to women as to men.  It is suitable for every body parts and serves an aesthetical or therapeutic goal (hirsutism, folliculitis, ingrown hair). The technology used at Institut Brabant allows to treat all phototypes (skin colors) : white, mixed, asian or black skins. In addition, our technology is highly effective on all types of hairiness, apart from very fine hair and white or very fair hair.

What precautions should you take before proceeding to laser hair removal?

It is very important for you to protect yourself from the sun during the weeks preceding and following your laser hair removal sessions. If you are taking medication, you must tell it to your technician, since some medication can make your skin sensitive to light. In some cases, it will be recommended to postpone your hair removal treatments.
You must stop waxing/using the tweezers,  as well as bleaching your body hair, at least one month before starting your treatment.  However, you are allowed to shave the areas to be treated.  By the way, such shaving must be done on the day before your treatment.

Laser hair removal is contraindicated for pregnant women and mothers who are breast-feeding. Some restrictions may apply if you have a metal implant on the face or under the area to be treated.  In addition, the treatment is not recommended if you suffer from a topical infection or skin lesions as psoriasis or eczema.

A hair removal treatment in short

First of all, your technician will assess your health condition, as well as the treatment indications and restrictions. She will evaluate your skin type (phototype) and examine the areas to be treated.

The treatments are executed in a relaxed environment, with no recourse to anaesthetics or gels.  The treatment may sometimes cause a slight discomfort, but the pain is attenuated by means of a pulsed-air cooling system that will be proposed to you by your technician.  If need be, the application of cold compresses might be proposed to you.

You will be able to resume your activities immediately after the treatment. You might feel a mild redness and moderate heat, as well as a slight swelling at the base of hair.  This feeling may last from 15 minutes to 2 hours. Usually, within the 3 to 5 days following the session, you will notice the loss of hair.  This phase may last from 10 and 15 days.

Care and maintenance plan

The average treatment lasts about 15 to 20 minutes. The results are visible after the very first treatment, but will be optimal after a few sessions.  The number of treatments required for a complete hair removal varies, in accordance with your skin type and the color of hair. In general, an average of 6 to 8 treatments, spaced 4 to 8 weeks apart, are required.

A total-block sun protection is absolutely essential for a period of 4 weeks after the treatment.  Your technician will guide you toward a choice of sun protection that is adapted to your needs and skin type.

The cost

In order to offer you rates that are adapted to your personal needs, to the area to be treated, to your skin color, to the density of the hairiness, as well as to other factors that may influence the cost of your treatment, an evaluation at the Institut will enable us to obtain a fair and appropriate assessment.
